Rabies is comparatively a dangerous disease which can spread from animals to humans. It is caused by ‘Lyssaviruses’. Ayurvedic medicine against rabies has been developed recently in Kerala, India. For a long time, effective vaccination is available (ARV) against rabies. Though the rabies spread to human beings from dog, cat, bat etc., dogs are the most vulnerable victims bearing the whole bad name as the cause for rabies. Dog is man’s best friend for ages. Plenty of historical evidence is available to establish the relationship between man and dog for than 50,000 years. Dog is the first animal that was domesticated by man – not cow or goat or horse as misconceived by many. Dogs are loyal to man and the other name of gratitude. Rabies is a disease of the past in most of the developed countries and it is totally extinct, but in India, there are many incidences of rabies. When the population of Community (Stray) dogs is controlled to manageable level by humane and scientific approach, all of them can be tracked, monitored and vaccinated and thereby make Trichy a Zero Rabies City. Controlling the number of dogs in street is one of the methods and thereby the rabies spread by dogs can be brought down. Scientific and humane methods shall be followed to control the dog population in streets. Subsequently, we can make TN and India also with Zero Rabies.
Providing proper vaccination to community dogs prevents the incidence of rabies and other diseases such as parvo, canine distemper etc. It also controls the skin diseases among animals to a huge extent. So, BLUE CROSS OF TRICHY has to vaccinate all the community dogs wherever they extend their operations.
The greatness of a Nation is judged by the way its animals are treated. Animals are important link in the life cycle of the Earth. They are helpless, voiceless and defenseless. Animal cruelty in any form is inhumane. The news we hear from various parts of the country about the animal cruelty makes us uneasy and to shiver, leading unable to eat and lose sleep. He who is cruel to animals becomes hard also with dealings with man. We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals, says Immanuel Kant. So, BLUE CROSS OF TRICHY has to engage creating awareness against animal cruelty – especially among children, who determine the future of the country.
Water is the source of life. One social thinker has rightly said: If there is another world war, it should be for water. In various parts of the world, the problems due to want of water have already started manifesting. The voiceless animals – both wild and community – are the victims of scarcity of water resource. In summer, birds and community animals especially dogs and cats suffer a lot lacking water. Most of the homeless animals wander in thirst and hunger. Finally, without any other go, they drink water from open sewage and get affected by various diseases that lead to painful death. When human beings are deprived of water, they block the road holding empty vessels in hand and ghero government officials, but the poor animals cannot do any such feat. They are depending upon the mercy of human beings. Hence, it is the duty of human beings – the most superior in the ladder of evolution – to give water to these helpless animals by providing water bowls etc. They can also be fed by the remaining food and the food waste created by human beings. So, BLUE CROSS OF TRICHY has to develop a proper waste food management scheme and to implement it to ensure the community animals are provided with water and food. Once their thirst and hunger is addressed, most of the animal-human conflict will wither away.
The number of veterinary hospitals and clinics are very less in number. Many people struggle to get proper treatment when their pets suffer from any disease or meet with any accident. So, BLUE CROSS OF TRICHY has to establish proper veterinary hospitals, clinics etc. in various parts of Trichy in order to cater the needs of animals.
Multiplication of community animals, otherwise called as stray animals, has become a menace. The poor animals also suffer a lot. No one should kill the dogs already born. It is a sin, and animal cruelty is a culpable offence in India. To control the dog population, it is not possible to make dogs to follow birth control measures as they have only 5 senses. So, performing Animal Birth Control operation (ABC) is the best and only scientific and humane method to control their population under control and manageable. Man has no right to kill any animal only because it is a stray. There is a well established proof for this. Earlier in Delhi, the number of stray dogs exceeded 5,00,000, but after implementing the ABC programme, the was reduced well below 70,000 in a span of a couple of years. In fact, animals can live in this world without man – even more comfortably, but man cannot live without the help and contributions of animals. As rightly pronounced by the Supreme Court of India recently, “Stray dogs also have the right to live in this world.” Co-existence is the only peaceful solution. Hence, BLUE CROSS OF TRICHY has to establish ABC centres to perform maximum number of ABC surgeries on community animals adhering to all the norms, rules and regulations laid down by the Government operations to make ZERO RABIES TRICHY – TAMILNADU – INDIA.
Many people who rear cows sell them to slaughter houses because they are unable to maintain and feed the barren cow. When a facility is available to maintain the cows which provided them milk, they would refrain from sending the poor cows to be cruelly killed. So, BLUE CROSS OF TRICHY has to establish a shelter for old cows to maintain them till their end. Though fewer in number, old horses also shall be maintained there till their natural end.
Though Trichy is a big city and has been awarded a reputed place in the ranking of cities and one of the fastest growing cities in India, there is no single pound for community animals where they can be fed and have a living. Creation of such pounds will reduce a lot of Man-Animal conflicts. So, BLUE CROSS OF TRICHY is endeavoring in the creation of such pounds in a few places.
Rabies is a dreaded disease for which earlier only vaccination was available. Many people died a painful death by rabies infection. To our great relief, curative medicine for rabies has been developed in India (Kerala) itself by Ayurvedha. Taking the medicine within 36 hours of the manifestation of rabies, the rabies viruses start subside and the patient is saved. The price of this medicine is also around Rs.2000/- only. Unfortunately, many doctors are unaware about the invention of availability of this important life saving drug and are still creating panic out of their ignorance. So, BLUE CROSS OF TRICHY has to create awareness about this medicine among the general public and doctors community as well and ensure the availability of this in all parts of the country.
When all the above plans are implemented sincerely, Trichy will be graded as the best Animal Welfare City and a pioneer for other cities to follow and certainly that will be another feather in the cap of Trichy. It is a moral wrong to deny the due share to animals. This only will make Trichy a Smart City and not mere tall buildings and concentrating selfishly only in human needs. It is important to understand that human beings cannot live in this world without animals, but animals can live happily without human beings.
